News: India win series courtsey Sachin's 200 |
It was a spectacular show put up by the master blaster Sachin Tendulkar today at the Captain Roop Singh Rathod stadium in Gwalior as he set the first innings on fire by registering a record of 200 runs from mere 147 balls. Tendulkar wrote off Saeed Anwar and Charles Coventry's record of highest individual score of 194 runs.
And his efforts proved worth as India beat South Africa by 153 runs and also the series by taking a 2-0 lead.
Off the 401/3 scored by India, 200 runs came only from this perfectionist who looked in rather a destructive mood since the beginning of the match. The day started off not too well for India as they lost Virender Sehwag early on.
But with opener Dinesh Karthik contributing 79 runs followed by the destructive knocks of 36 and 68 by Yusuf Pathan and MS Dhoni respectively, it was sure that India would be setting a huge target of 402 before the visitors.
The visitors were at a complete loss as Indian batsmen frustrated the Protea bowlers committing mistakes only three times. While speedster Dale Steyn, Charl Kenneth Langeveldt and experience Jacques Kallis were rendered wicketless, only Wayne Parnell and RE van der Merwe got the limited success.
Not even their batsmen could put up a good show as none except AB De Villiers who contributed a brave 114* but craved for a support all through. The fall of wickets was rather consistent with the Proteas as they had lost as many as six wickets within a span of first fifteen overs. The following overs were no better as fast bowler S Sreesanth emerged the most successful one claiming three for 49 runs.
