News: India win series, retain top spot |
After a rainy day yesterday, it seemed South Africa had thought to make up for the mistakes it has committed in the Test, as Hashim Amla and Ashwell Prince batted well for the first session to build up a 47-run partnership.
But with a Harbhajan Singh fifer, the efforts all put in by the visitors went in vain and India successfully won the match by an innings and 58 runs and also sustained the top spot in ICC Test rankings.
It was only the lone Protea warrior Hashim Amla who stood tall till the end scoring 123 from 394 deliveries powered by 16 boundaries.
While the first session saw the fall of two wickets as Prince and AB de Villiers were dismissed by Harbhajan and Amit Mishra. At lunch SA stood at 164 for 5 still trailing India by 183 runs and the post-lunch session saw the fall of another two wickets. rest of the batsmen were dismissed in the final session as India built pressure on the visitors though fielding let the home team down once again. Ishan Sharma felt Zaheer Khan’s absence a lot who had to keep out of the field because of injury.
However, as the match proceeded towards a draw with Amla and Morne Morkel making their way to an unbeatable partnership, it was Bhajji who struck again for his fifth wicket and had remarkable figures of 59 in 48.3 overs.
