News: Laxman, Dhoni tons help India take huge lead |
India played graciously on the third day of the second and final Test to oust the South Africans virtually from the game declaring the innings with a 347 run lead at 643/6. And the team had four centurions in the first innings, a rare sight, rather only the second time that four batsmen scored a century each I the same innings.
Heaping up the massive 347 run lead, India thought to declare the match in the last hour of the final session thinking that the pitch might play a bit of trick for the home team but bad light stopped the play and the visitors would return tomorrow afresh and prepared.
India lost only one wicket in today’s play as nightwatchman Amit Mishra proved economical sticking on for quite many overs of the first session and MS Dhoni, his successor batted wisely to score century 132 from 187 runs.
VVS Laxman who was dearly missed by India in the first Test played very watchfully realizing how important he is for his team added yet another brilliant century of 143 runs powered by 16 boundaries.
However, it was a blessing in disguise for the visitors as the light suddenly deteriorated after declaration reducing the possibility of 11 overs to mere five deliveries with the SA openers surviving the scare.
